When your child isn't themself

We can help you navigate it

We offer therapy and parent coaching for parents navigating emotional, behavioural, or relationship challenges with their young adult.

Using principles from Emotion-Focused Family Therapy and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, sessions can help you:

  • Understand what may be driving difficult interactions
  • Communicate more effectively
  • Validate without giving in or over-accommodating
  • Set clearer, healthier boundaries
  • Respond to distress with greater confidence

The goal is to help you feel more grounded and effective as a parent, while strengthening your relationship with your young adult.

Respond differently. Change the pattern.

Parent coaching can help when conversations quickly turn to arguments, boundaries are difficult to maintain, or you find yourself unsure whether to push, step back, reassure, or hold the line. We work with parents to develop a clearer approach to difficult situations - while protecting their relationship with their young adult.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my child need to be in therapy?

No. Parent coaching can be helpful whether or not your child is currently participating in therapy. We regularly work with parents whose child is not ready, willing, or interested in seeking support themselves.

How many sessions do you recommend?

Every family is different, but we typically recommend starting with at least four sessions. Your clinician can then help you determine whether additional sessions would be useful based on your family’s needs and goals.

What experience does your parent clinician bring?

BreAnne Dorian has over twenty years of experience supporting children, young adults, and families in both acute care and community settings. She has worked extensively with families navigating periods of conflict, emotional distress, and crisis. Her approach is warm, practical, and non-judgmental, with a focus on helping parents better understand what is happening and respond more effectively.
